The exercise book has done its time

Most planters and breeders keep good records; they just keep them in exercise books, on feed bags and in their heads. Then the supermarket buyer asks for treatment dates and withholding periods, the scheme form wants planted areas, and a week disappears into paperwork.

Kolab Agro keeps records where the work happens: in the karo, on a phone, with or without signal. Plantings, harvests, treatments, births, weights, feed and fridge temperatures are one tap each, and every entry is dated and traceable.

What comes out the other side is what buyers and schemes actually ask for: a traceability file per crop, a livestock history per animal, a cold chain log per chiller, and sales records with grading. The farm you already run, provable on paper.

In build, from bricks used in the field

Karo assembles two bricks that already work outdoors, plus scaffolding shared across the Kolab family.

  • Farm records brick: births, feed and treatments captured in the field, built
  • Cold chain log brick: fridge and chiller readings with excursion notes, built
  • Member register brick for cooperatives
  • Kiosk clock-in from Kolab HR for labour days

How Kolab Agro feels day to day

The karo

Plots, plantings and harvests in one register

Each karo carries its location, crop, area and history. Plantings and harvests are logged as they happen, so yield per plot stops being a guess and next season starts from evidence.

  • Karo register with crop, area and location
  • Harvest weights and grades per plot per day
  • Season view: what was planted where, and what it gave

Traceability

Treatments that respect the withholding period

Record a treatment in the field and the withholding clock starts. Karo blocks a harvest sale inside the window and builds the dated treatment history supermarket auditors ask to see.

  • Withholding countdown per plot, visible to everyone
  • Treatment log with product, dose and operator
  • A traceability file per crop, export-ready for buyers

Cold chain

The chiller never goes unwatched

Twice-daily readings, excursion notes and alerts when a fridge drifts. When the supermarket audit comes, the cold chain log is already written.

  • Readings logged in seconds against each chiller
  • Excursions recorded with cause and action taken
  • Weekly log exports for buyer audits

Livestock

Births, weights, treatments, lineage

Every animal or lot carries its story: born, weighed, fed, treated, sold. Lineage is kept so breeding decisions build on records, and treatment withholding applies to animals just as it does to crops.

  • Animal and lot registers with tag numbers
  • Weight curves that show a problem early
  • Vet treatments with withholding before sale

Local by design

Farming here, not in general

Scheme forms, supermarket audits and cyclone season are the realities of growing in Mauritius. Karo treats them as core features, not add-ons.

Scheme paperwork

Food Security Fund and similar applications want records you already keep in Karo: plantings, areas, inputs. Export them instead of rewriting them.

Supermarket traceability

Buyers audit treatments and withholding periods before they stock your crates. Karo answers with dated field records, not memory.

Cyclone prep

When a warning is issued, the cyclone checklist appears: secure the shade houses, harvest what is ready early, photograph damage after for claims.

Works in the karo

Field capture is built for no signal and dirty hands. Record now, sync when you reach the house.

Kreol in the field

Planters and field workers record in Kreol Morisien; the audit report comes out in English for the buyer.

WhatsApp to buyers

Harvest ready messages, grading notes and delivery confirmations reach buyers on WhatsApp, with the paperwork attached.

Boost in Kolab Agro

Farm records only work if they are kept daily. Kolab Boost makes the habit visible and worth keeping.

Record streaks

A day with every planned entry made, treatments, feeds, readings, extends the farm's streak, and the whole team sees it grow.

Cold chain guardians

Chiller checks done on time, morning and evening, earn steady points. The habit that saves a harvest deserves notice.

Harvest days

Big harvest days are logged with the crew that made them, so the season's effort has names on it when it ends.

More about Kolab Boost

In the wild

What it looks like in real businesses

A hydroponic farm in Moka

Nutrient checks, plantings and harvest weights per greenhouse line, and a traceability file the supermarket auditor can read in ten minutes.

A poultry breeder in Goodlands

Lots, weights, feed and treatments per house, with withholding rules that block a sale before it becomes a problem.

A vegetable cooperative of 40 members

Each member's karo, deliveries and grading in one register, so season-end statements are arithmetic, not arguments.

Questions

Asked all the time

What is built already?
The farm records brick (births, feed and treatments captured in the field) and the cold chain log brick (fridge readings with excursion notes) are built and working. Kolab Agro assembles them with plots, traceability, sales and cooperative records.
There is no signal in my karo. Does it still work?
Yes. Field capture works fully offline: record plantings, treatments and weights in the field, and everything syncs when your phone finds signal again.
What does the supermarket auditor actually get?
A dated traceability file per crop: plantings, treatments with products and doses, withholding windows and harvest dates, exported as a clean document your buyer can file.
We run crops and animals. Two products?
One product, one price. Karo covers plots and livestock together, because most Mauritian farms are mixed and the withholding logic is shared.
How does the cooperative tier work?
The Kooperativ tier adds member records from our member register brick: each member's karo holdings, deliveries and grading feed one register, and season-end statements come out per member.
Who owns the data, and what about DPA 2017?
You do. Member and worker records follow the Data Protection Act 2017 with role-based access and retention rules, and everything exports in open formats at any time.

Records that stand up, from karo to market

Karo is in build on bricks already used in the field. Planters and breeders who join early shape what ships first.
