Kolab Healthcare · PractiQ In pilot
Run your consulting room without the paper cards.
PractiQ is practice management for the private consulting room: one specialist, one secretary, a waiting room and a drawer of paper cards. It replaces the drawer with four friendly screens, and it treats patient privacy as a legal duty, not a feature.
- Easy mode: four screens and big type, built for tech-shy doctors
- Sequential MUR receipts, printed or sent by WhatsApp in one tap
- Recalls become a call list with prefilled messages, not a memory test
- Health data handled as DPA 2017 special category, properly
Made for
Built around one doctor and one secretary
Most medical software is built for hospitals and sold to everyone else. PractiQ starts from the real unit of private practice in Mauritius: a specialist, a secretary, a consulting room in Curepipe or Quatre Bornes, and twenty years of paper cards in a drawer. The pilot practice it was built inside looks exactly like that.
Easy mode is the heart of it: four screens, big type, no jargon. Today shows the appointment board. Patients finds or creates a card. New Visit records the consultation with fee quick-buttons and a follow-up date. Money shows the day's takings and reconciles the cash box before you lock up. A doctor who dislikes computers can run a full clinic day without help.
Advanced mode adds the depth when you want it: full navigation, visit templates, diagnosis tags, prescriptions, and specialty packs that are configuration, not code. The first pack is OBGYN, with pregnancy episodes, the WHO 8-contact antenatal schedule, risk scoring, and pap smear, HPV and IUD-expiry registers.
In pilot, in a real practice
PractiQ v0 is built and running, shaped visit by visit inside a working consulting room. Nothing on this page is imagined; the OBGYN pack is the current build.
- Patients, Today board, New Visit, Money, receipts and recalls all working in v0
- Paper-card migration: photograph the old card, attach it to the new record, move on
- Sister brick ClinicQ: a ticket kiosk queue with patient intake for busier waiting rooms
- OBGYN pack in build as v1; further specialty packs are configuration, not code

A closer look
How Kolab Healthcare feels day to day
The waiting room, on one board
The Today board holds the day: who is booked, who has arrived, who is done, who did not come. A walk-in becomes a proper visit in one tap, and no-shows are recorded so the recall engine can chase them kindly tomorrow.
- Booked to arrived to done, one tap each
- Walk-ins promoted without breaking the queue
- No-shows feed recalls instead of being forgotten
Every rupee receipted, every evening reconciled
Each visit ends with a sequential receipt in rupees, printed or sent to the patient's phone. At closing time, Money shows the day against the cash box, and mistakes are voided with a trace, never deleted. Month-end is a glance, not an argument.
- Sequential receipts, print or WhatsApp
- End-of-day cash reconciliation built in
- Void with a reason, never delete
Follow-ups that follow up themselves
A follow-up date set in New Visit becomes tomorrow's work automatically: the recall engine schedules it, and the call list hands the secretary a prefilled WhatsApp message per patient. Annual checks, results reviews and missed appointments all run on the same quiet loop.
- Trigger, schedule, template: set once, runs always
- One-tap prefilled WhatsApp per patient
- Messages stay discreet; details live in the record
OBGYN first, your specialty next
The OBGYN pack turns PractiQ into an antenatal practice tool: pregnancy episodes with EDD, the WHO 8-contact schedule tracked per patient, risk scores that flag early, and registers for pap smears, HPV and IUD expiries. Packs are configuration, not code, so other specialties follow the same road.
- Episode view: one pregnancy, every contact
- Registers that surface who is due, not just who came
- GP diabetes and hypertension, and paediatric EPI vaccines, on the roadmap
Local by design
A Mauritian consulting room, understood
Private practice here has its own rhythms: cash fees, WhatsApp confirmations, cyclone days and the DPA. PractiQ was built inside them.
DPA 2017, special category
Health data is special-category under the Act. PractiQ scopes access by role, keeps message content discreet, and backs up to files you control.
Receipts in rupees
Sequential MUR receipts patients can present for insurance refunds, printed or sent to their phone.
WhatsApp confirmations
Recalls and reminders go where Mauritian patients answer: WhatsApp first, SMS fallback.
Paper cards welcome
Twenty years of cards migrate by photo: snap the card, attach it to the record, keep consulting.
Cyclone days
When a warning closes the clinic, the day's list becomes a reschedule worklist with messages ready to send.
Three languages at the desk
The secretary greets in Kreol, messages in French, records in English. Everyone stays understood.
Boost for a team of two
A practice is a small team doing precise work every day. Boost gives the routine its due.
Call list cleared
Clearing the day's recalls earns a streak; patients who would have slipped through get called instead.
Clean cash closes
An end-of-day reconciliation that balances first time is worth points, and worth a lot more in peace of mind.
No-shows recovered
Every no-show rebooked within a week is a small win the system notices.
In the wild
What it looks like in real businesses
Runs Easy mode on a tablet between patients. The secretary works Advanced on the desk PC, receipts go out by WhatsApp, and the cash box has balanced every evening since week one.
Pilots the antenatal pack: every pregnancy tracked against the 8-contact schedule, pap and IUD registers surfacing who is due, and recalls doing the chasing.
Migrated the card drawer by photographing cards as patients arrived. Three months in, most active patients have a digital record and the drawer stays shut.
