Kolab Retail · Laboutik In build

The till that works through the power cut.

Kolab Retail brings the point of sale, the stock room, the credit book and an online shopfront into one system built for the Mauritian laboutik and the chain it becomes. It keeps selling when the electricity stops, and syncs the moment it returns.

  • Offline point of sale that syncs when power and signal come back
  • The karne kredi, tracked properly at last: balances, limits, reminders
  • Stock and reorder points that know each supplier's lead time
  • An online shopfront with WhatsApp ordering, from a pattern already live

Built for the shop at the corner, and the chain it becomes

The laboutik feeds its neighbourhood, extends credit until month end, and knows every customer by name. Most retail software ignores all of that: it assumes stable power, card payments and a stockroom clerk. So the till stays a drawer, the stock stays in the owner's head, and the credit stays in an exercise book that must never get lost.

Kolab Retail starts from the real counter. The till sells offline through a power cut and syncs later. The karne kredi is a first-class module, not a workaround. Prices display correctly whether you are VAT registered or not. And when you are ready, a simple online shopfront takes orders after hours and confirms them on WhatsApp.

It is in build, honestly labelled, and assembled from bricks that already work: our market POS with its offline sales ledger and cash reconciliation, our asset register, and an online-store flow that is live for a real Mauritian business today. Founding shops shape what ships first.

Assembled from bricks that already work

Kolab Retail is in build, but it does not start from a blank page. The hard parts exist and have been used at real counters; the build joins them into one product.

  • An offline sales ledger with cash reconciliation, built and working: our market POS brick
  • An asset register brick for tills, fridges, scales and shelving
  • A live online-store flow: browse, order, WhatsApp confirmation, pickup or delivery slots
  • Kolab HR and NexBooks alongside, for rosters and books when you want them

Modules

Everything inside Kolab Retail

Every module is a brick. Start with what hurts most, snap on the rest when you are ready.

Point of Sale

A fast till that keeps selling through a power cut and syncs the moment power and signal return.

Barcodes & quick keys

Scan what has a barcode; quick keys for bread, loose goods and everything sold by the scoop.

Stock & reorder points

Live stock by line, with reorder points that respect each supplier's lead time so you order before the shelf empties.

Purchases & GRN

Purchase orders and goods received notes, with the checks that catch a short delivery or a price rise at the door.

Credit book (karne kredi)

The customers who pay at month end, tracked properly at last: balances, limits and gentle WhatsApp reminders.

Online shopfront

A simple shop page where customers browse, order, and get a WhatsApp confirmation with a pickup or delivery slot.

Price labels & shelf tags

Shelf tags and price labels printed straight from the product file, always matching what the till charges.

Cash desk reconciliation

Float counts, end-of-day declarations and over-short tracking, per till and per cashier.

Multi-branch stock

One product file, stock visible per branch, transfers recorded, and a chain-wide view for the owner.

Sales reports

Sales by hour, day and line, margin by category, and the dead stock report that frees shelf space.

VAT either way

VAT registered or not, the till, labels and receipts display prices correctly for your status.

How Kolab Retail feels day to day

The till

Selling does not stop when the power does

The till is offline first. Every sale is stored on the device and synced when power and signal return, so a cut in the middle of the Saturday rush costs you nothing but the fan.

  • Every sale kept on the device, synced when the line returns
  • End of day still balances, even after an outage
  • Receipts printed or sent by WhatsApp, the customer's choice

The karne

Month-end credit, without the exercise book

Neighbourhood credit is how a laboutik keeps its customers, and it deserves better than a copybook behind the counter. Balances and limits show at the till, and month-end statements go out on WhatsApp in one tap.

  • Balances and limits per customer, visible while you serve
  • Month-end statements sent on WhatsApp in one tap
  • Payments recorded against the karne, cash or Juice

Reorder before the shelf goes empty

Reorder points are only useful if they know how long each supplier takes. Kolab Retail carries a lead time per supplier, so the flour is ordered while there is still flour, and the GRN check at the door catches what the invoice hides.

  • Reorder points per line, with supplier lead times built in
  • GRN checks catch short deliveries and price rises on arrival
  • Transfers between branches recorded, not remembered

The shopfront

Your shop, open on WhatsApp after hours

A simple online shopfront takes orders while the shutters are down, from a flow that is already live for a real Mauritian business. Customers browse from a link, order, and get a WhatsApp confirmation with a pickup or delivery slot.

  • Customers browse and order from a link you share
  • Every order confirmed on WhatsApp with a pickup or delivery slot
  • Orders land at the till and stock adjusts automatically

Local by design

A till that knows the island

The laboutik is a Mauritian institution. Kolab Retail is built around how it actually trades, not how a supermarket abroad does.

Power cuts happen

The till keeps selling through an outage and syncs when power returns. End of day still balances, and no sale is lost.

The karne is real

Month-end credit is how neighbourhoods work. It deserves proper balances and polite reminders, not an exercise book that can walk away.

VAT, either way

Registered or not, prices, labels and receipts display correctly for your status, and crossing the threshold is one setting, not a migration.

Three languages

The till speaks English, French and Kreol Morisien per cashier, so training the new helper takes minutes, not days.

Cyclone stock rush

When a warning is issued, the surge report shows what flies off the shelves, and reorder points can step up for the season.

DPA 2017

Customer credit records are personal data. Access is role-based, retention is managed, and every customer can have their own statement.

Boost at the counter

Kolab Boost turns good till habits into points, badges and rewards the team actually wants.

Clean closes

Cashiers earn points for end-of-day counts that balance first time, streak by streak.

Shelf discipline

Completed reorder checks and tidy GRNs count toward badges, branch by branch.

Branch leagues

Friendly monthly leagues between shops, with rewards budgeted in rupees: top-ups, cinema tickets, a Friday afternoon.

More about Kolab Boost

In the wild

What it looks like in real businesses

A corner laboutik in Goodlands

One till, the karne and the reorder list. Month-end statements go out on WhatsApp, and the owner finally sees the true credit total in one number.

A hardware store in Curepipe

Six thousand lines, quick keys for loose fittings, and reorder points that carry each supplier's lead time, so the fast movers stop running out on Saturdays.

A three-shop minimarket chain, Rose-Hill to Quatre Bornes

One product file, stock per branch, transfers recorded, and the owner reads sales by hour across all three shops from one phone.

Questions

Asked all the time

Does the till really work without internet?
Yes. It is offline first: sales are stored on the device and synced when power and signal return. The end-of-day declaration still balances, outage or not.
We are not VAT registered. Does that matter?
No. A single setting tells the system your VAT status, and the till, shelf tags and receipts all display prices correctly for it. When you cross the threshold, you flip the setting, not the system.
Can we import our products from a spreadsheet?
Yes, products, prices and opening stock import from CSV. Assisted setup, including typing in that old exercise book of credit balances, is quoted in rupees, fixed, before we start.
What hardware do we need?
An Android tablet or any PC, a common receipt printer and a USB or Bluetooth scanner if you want one. No proprietary till, no imported bundle priced in dollars.
When does it launch?
Kolab Retail is in build. The offline sales ledger and cash reconciliation exist as a working brick, and the online shopfront flow is live for a real Mauritian business. Join the waitlist and founding shops shape what ships first, with the launch price locked for two years.
Is it safe to put the karne in software?
Safer than the book. Credit records are held under Mauritius DPA 2017 rules with role-based access, customers can receive their own statement, and your data exports at any time in open formats.
