Run the chantier from the chantier

Kolab Construction puts the site diary, snag lists, attendance and materials in the site manager's pocket, and keeps working when the signal does not. Head office sees every chantier live, from foundation to handover.

  • Site diary with weather, visitors and instructions, kept daily
  • Snag lists with photo proof, room by room, fully offline
  • Who is on which chantier today, straight from kiosk punches
  • Materials to site, tool tracking with QR labels, subcontractor job cards

The site runs on paper until the paper gets wet

The diary is a damp notebook in the container. The snags are photos lost in three WhatsApp groups. Attendance is a signature sheet that agrees with nobody's payroll. When the client disputes a delay or a subcontractor disputes a count, the record is whatever survived the rain.

Chantier gives the site manager one app that works with no wifi and no patience: log the day in two minutes, photograph a defect and pin it to a room, punch the crew in at the gate, request materials before the mixer runs dry. Everything syncs when the phone finds signal, and head office sees every site on one screen.

It ends where every project should: a handover pack the client can hold. Snags closed with photo proof, the diary as a day-by-day record, variations documented and signed, and the retention conversation grounded in facts instead of memory.

Assembled from proven bricks

Chantier is in build, but its hardest parts already exist as working Kolab bricks that we are assembling into one product.

  • Snag lists come from a built room-by-room defect app with photos and printable handover reports
  • Subcontractor job cards reuse the built installer job-card brick: survey, checklist, handover photos
  • Tool and vehicle tracking reuse the built QR asset-register and fleet-logbook bricks
  • Site attendance runs on the Kolab HR kiosk engine, and job costing on Kolab Manufacturing

Modules

Everything inside Kolab Construction

Every module is a brick. Start with what hurts most, snap on the rest when you are ready.

Site Diary

The daily log: weather, workforce, visitors, instructions received and given, in two minutes a day.

Snag Lists

Photograph defects room by room, assign a trade, close with proof, print the handover report.

Site Attendance

Kiosk or phone punches per chantier, so you know who is on which site today, and payroll agrees.

Materials to Site

Requests from site, orders from office, deliveries confirmed at the gate with photos.

Tools & Plant

QR labels on tools and plant: who has the breaker, which site has the props, what came back broken.

Subcontractor Job Cards

Scoped cards per subcontractor with checklists and photo sign-off, so claims match work done.

Progress Photos

A dated photo timeline per chantier, from bare karo to keys, that settles arguments before they start.

Variation Orders

Scope changes captured with photos, prices and signatures at the moment they happen, not at final account.

Handover Packs

Diary, snags, photos, tests and manuals bundled into one pack the client signs off.

Toolbox Talks

Safety talks in Kreol with attendance signatures on the phone, filed where an inspector can find them.

Vehicles

The fleet logbook for pickups and lorries: trips, fuel, servicing alerts and driver checks.

Retention & Valuations

Track retention held and release dates per project, so money you earned does not get forgotten.

A closer look

How Kolab Construction feels day to day

The site diary

Two minutes a day beats total recall

Weather, crew count, visitors, deliveries, instructions: the diary asks short questions and stamps the answers with date and author. A year later it reads like the site's memory, because it is.

  • Prompted entries, so nothing important is skipped
  • Photos attach to the day they happened
  • Exports as a dated record when disputes get formal

Snag lists

Every defect photographed, pinned and closed

Walk the building room by room, photograph each snag, assign it a trade and a deadline. The list works completely offline and prints into the handover report the client actually reads.

  • Works with no signal, syncs when the phone finds some
  • Each snag closes with an after photo, not a promise
  • One report per unit, ready for the remise de cles

Workforce

Who is on which chantier today

Crews punch in at the site they are actually on, from a kiosk in the container or a foreman's phone. Head office sees headcount per chantier live, and payroll reads the same punches through Kolab HR.

  • Punches carry the site, so labour cost lands per project
  • Subcontractor headcounts logged alongside your own
  • Cyclone and rain stand-downs recorded correctly for pay

Materials

The mixer never waits for the office

The foreman requests materials from the site with quantities and a photo if needed. The office turns requests into orders, and the gate confirms deliveries against them. Double-buying and mystery shortages both stop.

  • Requests carry the chantier, the need date and the requester
  • Deliveries confirmed at the gate, shortages flagged that hour
  • Costs land on the right project, feeding Fabrik costing

Local by design

Built for building here

Cyclone season, CIDB paperwork, retention money and rain days are not edge cases in Mauritius. They are the job.

Cyclone season planning

A pre-season checklist per site: secure the scaffold, strap the container, photograph the state. Stand-down days log correctly for pay, not as absences.

Heavy rain days

Red alerts and rain stand-downs recorded per chantier with photos, so delay claims rest on a dated record.

BRN and CIDB on file

Each subcontractor's BRN and CIDB registration grade sits on their card, ready when the client or the consultant asks.

Retention remembered

Retention held, release conditions and due dates tracked per project, so the last five percent stops being a donation.

Toolbox talks in Kreol

Safety talks delivered and signed in the language the crew actually speaks, filed with names and dates.

WhatsApp progress updates

The client gets a weekly photo update on WhatsApp instead of a surprise at the site meeting.

Boost on the chantier

Kolab Boost rewards the habits that keep sites safe and on programme, in points the crew can see and rewards budgeted in rupees.

Diary streaks

Site managers who keep the daily log complete build streaks head office can celebrate.

Snag closers

Trades that close snags first time, with proof photos, earn points instead of callbacks.

Safety signatures

Full crews at toolbox talks earn team points, because the talk only works if everyone was there.

More about Kolab Boost

In the wild

What it looks like in real businesses

A renovation firm running 5 villas

One snag walk per villa per week, each defect pinned to a room with a photo. Handover goes from a fortnight of arguments to a signed report.

A main contractor of 60 on a warehouse job

The crew punches in at the gate kiosk, labour cost lands on the project daily, and materials requests stop the double-buying between store and site.

An MEP subcontractor across 3 sites

Job cards scope each installation, variations get photographed and signed the day they happen, and claims stop dying at final account.

Questions

Asked all the time

Does it really work without internet?
Yes. The diary, snag lists, photos and punches all work offline on the phone and sync when signal returns. Chantiers do not have wifi, so offline is the default, not a mode.
What does "in build" mean for us?
The hardest bricks already exist and work: the snag list app, installer job cards, the fleet logbook, the QR asset register and the attendance kiosk. We are assembling them into one product, and early customers shape the order we do it in.
Do subcontractors need their own licences?
Your own staff need seats. A subcontractor foreman working your sites gets a limited seat for job cards and snags; clients and consultants view handover packs and progress links free.
Is retention tracking an accounting feature?
It tracks what is held, by whom, against which conditions and until when, and reminds you before release dates. The invoices themselves live happily in NexBooks.
Who owns the photos and records?
You do. Everything exports in open formats at any time, and handover packs generate as PDFs you can hand to anyone. DPA 2017 handling applies to workers' personal data throughout.
How do cyclone days affect pay?
The cyclone switch logs stand-down days per site with the correct day type, and Kolab HR carries them into payroll so nobody loses a day's pay to a Class III warning.

Give every chantier a memory
