Costing sheets that stop quotes leaking margin

Kolab Manufacturing runs the whole job: cost it, quote it, plan it, make it, deliver it, invoice it. It is proven daily in a working Mauritian workshop, where it already prices the jobs and clocks the floor.

  • Costing sheets with real material prices and real process times
  • Job sheets that travel with the work across the floor
  • Work planner, inventory, procurement and delivery in one place
  • Full-screen kiosk clock-in on the floor, always on

The quote is where the money leaks

The silent killer of Mauritian workshops is not the rent or the wages. It is the quote priced from memory: a steel price from two years ago, a guess at how many parts fit on a sheet, labour rounded down to win the job. The job comes in, the floor does the work, and the margin quietly walks out the door.

Fabrik starts at that exact spot. A costing sheet builds each quote from materials at today's prices, processes with their real times, labour at real rates, per-box arithmetic for packed goods and parts-per-sheet nesting for cut ones. When the client says yes, the costing sheet becomes the job sheet, and the numbers you promised become the numbers you track.

This is not a concept. Kolab Manufacturing is productised from an ERP that runs daily inside a working Mauritian workshop, from the first enquiry to the delivery note. Pilot customers join now, shape what ships, and lock their launch price.

Proven on a real shop floor

Fabrik is not built from a whiteboard. It is the productised version of an ERP that a Mauritian workshop uses every working day, plus patterns from the wider Kolab brick family.

  • Costing sheets, job sheets and the work planner price and run the pilot workshop's jobs daily
  • Kiosk attendance has clocked the floor since day one: full screen, always operational
  • Inventory, procurement, delivery, equipment and petty cash are already live in the pilot
  • The tailor orderbook brick proves the same costing pattern scales down to a two-person atelier

Costing sheets

Every quote built from real numbers

A costing sheet assembles the job line by line: materials at current prices, processes at measured times, labour, packing and margin. Nesting arithmetic tells you how many parts fit a sheet before you promise a price.

  • Price history stops old prices sneaking into new quotes
  • Parts-per-sheet and per-box arithmetic done for you
  • Margin visible per line before the quote goes out

Job sheets

The traveller, without the paper

When a quote is won, the costing sheet becomes a job sheet: the document that travels with the work across the floor. Each step is ticked where it happens, so the office sees progress without walking the shop.

  • One board shows every job from queued to delivered
  • Actual times land against the times you quoted
  • Late materials flag before the promise date slips

The floor

Clock-in that never blocks the shift

A full-screen kiosk at the workshop door clocks the team in and out, and it is built to be always operational: no browser bars, no logins to fumble, no queue at 07:00. Hours flow to payroll through Kolab HR.

  • Punch and go, designed for hands that just held steel
  • Hours per person and per job, without a timesheet
  • Feeds PAYE, CSG and overtime through Kolab HR

Stock & buying

Inventory that keeps quotes honest

Stock control and procurement close the loop: what you buy updates what things cost, and what things cost updates the next quote. The stores stop being a mystery and start being a source of truth.

  • Price changes flag so quoting catches up the same week
  • Low stock warns before a job stalls at the saw
  • Purchase orders, receipts and supplier history in one place

Local by design

Made for workshops on an island

Almost everything a Mauritian workshop cuts, folds or stitches arrived by sea. Fabrik treats that reality, and the rest of island life, as the starting point.

Imported prices, tracked

Material prices move with freight and the dollar. Price history in the costing sheet means quotes follow reality, not memory.

Cyclone stand-down

A cyclone switch secures the work planner, pauses lateness rules at the kiosk, and logs the day correctly for pay.

Kreol on the floor

Job sheets and the kiosk speak English, French and Kreol Morisien, per person, so instructions are read, not guessed.

Payroll-ready hours

Kiosk punches flow to Kolab HR for PAYE, CSG, NSF and overtime, so the floor's hours become payslips without re-typing.

WhatsApp job updates

Clients hear the frame is ready for collection, or the delivery van is on its way, on the channel they actually read.

Our holidays in the planner

Public holidays and shutdown weeks are pre-loaded, so promise dates stay honest through Divali and end-of-year.

Boost on the shop floor

Kolab Boost turns good workshop habits into points, badges and rupee-budgeted rewards, visible right at the kiosk.

Punctuality streaks

On-time punches at the workshop door build streaks the whole floor can see grow.

First-time-right jobs

Jobs closed without rework earn points for the crew that made them, because quality is the cheapest process.

Stores discipline

Stock counts done on time and materials booked out properly earn points, and the inventory stays true.

More about Kolab Boost

In the wild

What it looks like in real businesses

The pilot: a working Mauritian workshop

Prices and runs its jobs on these exact modules every day. Quotes carry price history instead of memory, and the kiosk has clocked every shift since it went in.

A joinery of 18 in Goodlands

Templates hold the standard wardrobes and kitchen carcasses, so a new quote starts mostly done and nesting says how many sheets before the saw starts.

A tailoring atelier of 4 in Rose-Hill

The same costing pattern, scaled down: measurements as the costing sheet, fabric nesting instead of steel, and a Friday list of orders to cut.

Questions

Asked all the time

What does "in pilot" mean exactly?
The system runs daily inside one real Mauritian workshop, and we are productising it: packaging, onboarding and pricing. Pilot customers come aboard now, shape the roadmap, and keep their launch price for two years.
Does the nesting really optimise cutting?
It does honest arithmetic: parts per sheet and sheets per job, so a quote never assumes steel you will not get out of the material. It is not a CNC nesting optimiser and does not pretend to be.
Does it connect to our machines?
No. Fabrik runs the paperwork around the machines: the costing, the job sheet, the plan, the stock and the hours. Your machines keep doing what they do.
We quote in Excel today. How do we move?
Materials, prices, customers and templates import from CSV. Assisted migration is quoted in rupees, fixed, before we start, and your old sheets stay yours.
Does attendance feed payroll?
Yes, through Kolab HR: kiosk punches become attendance, overtime and payroll with PAYE, CSG, NSF and PRGF applied. One family, one data flow, no re-typing.
What happens when the internet drops?
The kiosk keeps clocking and the floor keeps reading its job sheets; everything syncs when the connection returns. A workshop should never stop because the ADSL did.
