Kolab iQ · Smart queues In design
The queue you never stand in.
Kolab iQ replaces the line with a queue reference. Customers scan a QR at the door, keep shopping or sit down, and get called on WhatsApp when the counter is nearly ready for them.
- Scan at the entrance, pick your shopping time, get a queue reference
- One customer served, two on stand-by, everyone else free to roam
- Called when your turn is close, postpone by 5, 10 or 15 minutes
- Wait estimates from real serving times, not guesses
Made for
Nobody shops while standing in line
Month-end Saturday, trolley full, and then the real work starts: twenty-five minutes holding your place with your feet. The customer hates it, and the store pays for it too, because every minute spent standing in line is a minute not spent in the aisles.
Kolab iQ makes the queue virtual. You scan a QR at the entrance, say roughly how long you will shop, 5, 15, 30, 60 or 90 plus minutes, and get a queue reference, not a number on a screen. The queue orders itself by who scanned first and how long they said they need. Each cashier serves one customer with two on stand-by, and you get called when your turn is close. Not ready? Postpone, and the next person moves up automatically, first in, first out.
And because it is a queue engine, not a supermarket feature, the same brain runs any counter in the family: the pharmacy window, the bank teller, the clinic reception, the government front office. One product, every vertical that ever made a Mauritian stand in line.
In design, not from zero
Kolab iQ is a design-stage product looking for founding pilots, but its bones are already built and running elsewhere in the family.
- Clinic queue brick built: ticket kiosk, intake and per-counter calling run in a working prototype today
- WhatsApp and SMS calling is the platform notification channel every Kolab product shares
- Dynamic QR presence checks reuse kiosk patterns proven in Kolab People Manager
- Kolab Healthcare, Retail and Hospitality plug iQ in as their queue engine rather than rebuilding one
Modules
Everything inside Kolab iQ
Every module is a brick. Start with what hurts most, snap on the rest when you are ready.
Entrance QR
One scan at the door starts the visit: pick 5, 15, 30, 60 or 90 plus minutes of shopping and you are in the queue.
Queue references
A reference, not a ticket number. Nobody counts heads on a screen; the queue knows where everyone stands.
Stand-by discipline
Each counter serves one customer with two queued on stand-by, so the till never idles and the line never forms.
Turn notifications
Called on WhatsApp or SMS when your turn is close, ordered by scan time and declared shopping time.
Postpone and reassign
Not ready? Postpone by 5, 10 or 15 minutes and the next customer moves up automatically, first in, first out.
Dynamic counter QR
A rotating QR at the till confirms you are really there before you join the stand-by pair.
Live wait estimates
Approximate waiting time computed from the real average time customers spend at the counter.
Floor dashboard
Queues per counter, waits, postponements and no-shows, live for the floor manager.
Priority lanes
Elderly, pregnant and disabled customers get priority by rule, visibly and consistently.
Queue analytics
Peak hours, service times, abandonment and staffing hints, by day and by counter.
Counter setups
Express tills, priority counters, pharmacy consultations: each counter carries its own rules.
Family plug-in
Runs as the queue engine inside Kolab Retail, Healthcare and Hospitality, or fully standalone.
A closer look
How Kolab iQ feels day to day
Scan, shop, get called
The whole queue fits in three states: shopping, called, at the counter. Customers scan once at the door and declare a rough shopping time; from there the engine orders everyone by scan hierarchy, who scanned first and how long they said they need.
- Shopping-time choices of 5, 15, 30, 60 or 90 plus minutes shape when you are called
- The reference follows the customer, not a screen in one corner
- Groups shop together on one reference, one trolley, one call
Called at the right moment, not too early
The engine watches how fast counters are actually moving and calls each customer just before their turn, on WhatsApp, in their language. Accept and head over, or postpone and keep shopping; the next customer is promoted automatically and nobody loses their place unfairly.
- Accept or postpone by 5, 10 or 15 minutes with one tap
- A postponement promotes the next customer, first in, first out, weighted by shopping time
- Serial postponements are capped so the queue keeps moving
One serving, two on stand-by, zero idle tills
When a customer accepts and reaches the counter, they scan a rotating QR to prove they are really there, then join the stand-by pair. The till always has its next two customers ready, so throughput never drops, and no-shows cycle out after a fair grace window.
- The dynamic QR cannot be scanned from the car park
- No-shows lose the slot after a grace window, never silently
- Stand-by pairs keep every counter fed at peak hour
The queue becomes data you can staff by
Every scan, call, postponement and service is a data point. Managers see waits climb before customers feel them, get a nudge to open a till when the predicted wait crosses a threshold, and learn their true peak hours by counter, not by folklore.
- Open-a-till alerts fire before the wait hurts
- Service-time averages per counter drive honest estimates
- Abandonment tracking shows the customers you nearly lost
Local by design
Built for the queues we actually stand in
Month-end crowds, cyclone restock rushes and the pension-day pharmacy: iQ is designed around the days Mauritian counters really face.
Month-end mode
Pay-day weekends triple the crowd. iQ absorbs the surge with honest estimates and open-a-till alerts, so the crush never reaches the door.
Cyclone restock rushes
When a warning sends everyone shopping at once, virtual queues keep order at the tills and the gas bottle counter alike.
Priority done properly
Elderly, pregnant and disabled customers are prioritised by rule, visibly and consistently, not by whoever argues best at the front.
WhatsApp, no app
Customers install nothing. The queue lives in the browser and call-ups arrive on WhatsApp, with SMS fallback.
Three languages
Call-ups arrive in the customer's choice of English, French or Kreol Morisien.
DPA 2017, light touch
A queue needs a phone number for an hour, not a profile. References expire and personal data purges on a schedule.
Boost in Kolab iQ
Boost recognises calm, honest queues. It never pressures staff to rush customers through.
Estimate accuracy
Counters whose predicted waits match reality earn team points. Honest estimates matter more than fast ones.
Zero-idle streaks
Days where no till sat empty while customers waited count as team wins worth celebrating.
Courtesy kudos
Customers can send a one-tap thank you after being served. Kudos land on the whole counter team, never one scorecard.
In the wild
What it looks like in real businesses
On month-end Saturdays customers scan at the door and keep shopping until called. Baskets got fuller, the till line disappeared, and the manager opens tills from the wait forecast.
Prescriptions take minutes to prepare. Customers wait at the snack next door instead of the counter, priority rules serve elderly clients first, and nobody hovers.
Morning crowds pick a service, get a reference and an honest estimate, and the hall stops being standing room only by nine.
